Week in Review: Accomplishments and Progress
This past week, the contractor spliced and drove additional shell piles for the west abutment, then set rebar, framed, and poured the concrete to complete its construction. Progress continued on the retaining walls east of the river, where soldier piles were driven on both the north and south sides of Oak Spring Road. The contractor also installed lagging and wall drains on the south side and completed the underdrain installation for the west abutment. Additionally, the pile driver was disassembled, and the crane on the east side of the river began demobilization.
Looking Ahead: Planned Activities
In the upcoming week, the contractor plans to continue work on the retaining walls east of the river, with excavation, lagging installation, and wall drain setup on the north side of Oak Spring Road. Excavation will also begin for the retaining walls west of the river, where the contractor anticipates driving soldier piles on both the north and south sides of Oak Spring Road, advancing the structural elements on the western side of the site.
Community Impact: What to Expect
With the road closure now in effect, residents should be aware that Oak Spring Road from east of the Des Plaines River Trail to west of Hawthorn Lane is closed to traffic for the duration of the project. This closure is necessary to ensure the safety of both the workers and the public. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated as work to improve the community’s infrastructure continues. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the project’s progress and any anticipated changes in traffic patterns.
